How to Make Incense Sticks With Essential Oils

Ninon unscented punk stinks are premium quality wood burning sticks that are unscented and uncolored. Since the sticks have no scent they are an ideal option to create your own DIY incense. Should you decide to burn the stick as it is, it will provide a natural wood smell, however, we recommend scenting the incense stick using essential oils.

Popular DIY Incense Stick Scents

The possibilities for scenting an incense stick is endless and depends on your preferences. Here are some of our favorite custom incense sticks scents:

Wood Scents

Sandalwood, pine, cedar, juniper, pinion pine, juniper, agarwood

Herbal Scents

Sage, thyme, lemongrass, rosemary, star anise

Floral Scents

Lavender, iris, rose, saffron, hibiscus

Spice Scents

Cassia, juniper leaves, lemongrass, lavender, orange powder, patchouli, cinnamon, frankincense

Tree Scents

Balsam, acacia, amber, copal, hibiscus, myrrh, burgundy pitch,

Test out different scent combinations to see which are your favorite, for example you can try two parts sage and 3 parts sandalwood for a musky scent. Or you can accent a wood scent with a floral scent. Remember to keep a record of the different combinations you’ve tried so you can repeat them in the future.

How to Make Incense Sticks Using Essential Oils

Before you begin, gather all of the supplies you will need to scent your incense sticks. This includes any essential oils you plan to use, a long, thin dish or container that fits the sticks, and a mug to store the sticks overnight.

When looking at the incense stick, you will be scenting the spongey part of the stick, the wooden part is the end you should hold when dipping the sticks or lighting them.

You can make as many sticks at once as you’d like, you simply need to adjust how much oil you pour into the dish. Each incense stick will require a total of 20 drops of essential oils. This means if you do a batch of 5 incense sticks, you will need 100 drops of oil.

Once the oil is in the dish, you should press the incense sticks gently into the oils so it can absorb the scent. Remove the stick or sticks from the dish and place them sponge side down into a mug and let it sit for 24 hours. After 24 hours have passed the incense sticks are ready to be used.

If you want to ensure the scent of your incense sticks is very strong, you can alternatively let the punk sticks soak overnight and then allow them to sit for 24 hours.
